Who doesn’t like a good steak? Well, I suppose if you’re a vegetarian or vegan, but that’s beside the point.
Anyway, Homer’s Steakhouse & More is expected to open late next week at 825 W. Jefferson, in the location most recently home to Shanti Yoga. Before that, diners might know it as the former Park Heights location, as well as for Bistro at Park and Tiger Lilly Cafe.
Owners Tom and Kerri Horton have a combined 50 years of restaurant experience, and they think the location is ideal.
“We fell in love with the place as soon as we saw it,” Kerri Horton said.
The restaurant initially will open for dinner only, from 4 p.m. to 9:30 p.m Monday-Thursday and Friday-Saturday from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. The phone number is (662) 260-5070.
The restaurant will seat 50 diners.
On the menu? Steaks, of course. Prime rib, New York strip, ribeye … every cut available, and not just a few that many restaurants are limited to, the Hortons said. Some seafood also will be on the menu, and the “other” items are being tweaked.
And Tom Horton, who will be running the kitchen, knows a thing or two about steaks. He’s been a kitchen manager for restaurants like Houston’s in Memphis and Copeland’s, and he was involved with Doe’s Eat Place when it was open in Tupelo.
The restaurant is named for Horton’s father, the late Dr. Homer Horton, a founder of Tupelo Anesthesia Group. He was a lover of steaks, Tom Horton said.
On the menu at Homer’s will be a version of Dr. Horton’s favorite, what his son calls the “Homer cut,” or the “glutton cut” – a 2-inch ribeye.
