The newest addition to the food truck scene in Tupelo has been up and running for about a month.
It’s called A Little Taste of Chicago, and it offers exactly what it says – a variety of hot dogs, plus Italian beef, Italian sausage and beef, cheese fries and chili cheese fries are on the menu.
The food truck is run by Heather Brozenec and Yvonne Brozenec, Illinois natives who have been living in Northeast Mississippi for about nine years ago.
Heather’s brother, Dustin Millen, returned from overseas, and when the family got back together, they wanted a way to share their love for the Windy City.
After buying a truck and fixing it up over a few months, they opened it in January.
“We know a lot of people from Chicago and Illinois down here, and we just thought the cuisine would appeal to a lot of people,” Heather said. “Everything’s going well – every week we get more and more people.”
A Little Taste of Chicago has a Facebook page where you can keep track of its location, but for now, it’s usually parked on Main Street in Fairpark from Tuesday-Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
They’re scouting other areas in Tupelo to set up the truck, Heather added.
Among the favorite menu items are the Italian sausage and beef combo, Yvonne said.
“And of course the hot dogs, which are all Vienna hot dogs,” she added.
(BTW, Vienna Beef hot dogs should NOT be confused with vienna sausages)
Then of course is the famous Chicago Dog: it’s on a sesame seed bun, and comes with mustard – NO ketchup – onions, pickle relish, a dill pickle spear, tomato slices or wedges, pickled sport peppers and a dash of celery salt.
But if you have to have ketchup, they’ll accommodate you.
