We’re less than three weeks away from the anticipated opening of Jimmy John’s in Tupelo.
Franchise co-owner Carolyn Brownson said the restaurant should open on Feb. 28.
Construction is all but complete at the store, which is at the corner of Varsity Drive and South Gloster Street, across from Tellini’s. It’s in the building that was once ZIP Scripts Pharmacy.
Some interior work remains to be finished, and hiring and training has begun.
The restaurant will initially employ 40-50 people. Applications are available on site or on Snagajob.
The restaurant will have a drive-through and will offer delivery. The 1,795-square-foot building will have dining capacity for 62 people, according to plans filed with the city’s Development Services department.
The nearest Jimmy John’s locations are in Columbus, Corinth, Oxford and Starkville. Other locations in Mississippi include Biloxi, Flowood, Hattiesburg, Jackson, Madison and Southaven.
Jimmy John’s was founded in 1983 by Jimmy John Liautaud, and it is headquartered in Champaign, Illinois. The company has more than 2,500 locations in 46 states, and as of 2014, about 98 percent of the restaurants were franchise-owned.
