The former Atlanta Bread Company and Bim Bam Burgers location will be the new home of McAlister’s this summer
It’s been talked about for a couple of months, but we can confirm that McAlister’s Deli in Tupelo is moving.
It will be going into what was originally the Atlanta Bread Co. building, and which was most recently a Bim Bam Burgers & Wings location.
David Blackburn, whose Southern Rock Restaurants is the second-largest franchisee of McAlister’s, said the move should be completed by early summer.
“We love Tupelo,” he said. “We purchased it about five and a half years ago from corporate, and it’s the oldest store in our system. So it’s due for a major update.
Blackburn said a standalone location is ideal, and buying the building was an opportunity he couldn’t let pass.
The restaurant will maintain its current capacity of 181 diners, but Blackburn said that they will be expanding the patio area.
McAlister’s now has some 400 locations. Southern Rock looks to grow to 70 locations this year, Blackburn said.
McAlister’s was founded in 1989 by Oxford dentist Don Newcomb. A second location opened in Hattiesburg in 1992, and the Tupelo store opened a year later.
