STARKVILLE - With a cold drizzle falling, Mississippi State pressed on Tuesday despite some struggles and the effects of injuries.

The Bulldogs' eighth practice of the spring was conducted without reserve tailback Nick Griffin and safety Nickoe Whitley. Coach Dan Mullen revealed that Griffin had a torn ACL, which he suffered Friday, while Whitley sat out with a sprained right knee suffered during Saturday's scrimmage.

Near the end of practice, starting offensive guard Gabe Jackson went down with what appeared to be a knee injury. Mullen said he should know "in a couple of days" the nature of Jackson's injury.

The coach thought his team was high on intensity but low on execution Tuesday.

"When you've got a young team that we have, a limited number of seniors on this team, young guys have to understand the sense of urgency that they have to play with, of how fast the time is going to go by," Mullen said. "I liked the effort and the intensity, but we have to clean the execution way up."

MSU will return to the practice field Thursday.
