So, Poison is in town and the various members have been out and about, but Tupelo's been buzzing for more reasons than just that lately.
This morning, Tupelo singer-songwriter John Milstead appeared on the "Today Show" (specifically the "second half" hosted by Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford). The show had its own version of "Today's Voice" – from what I could tell, they saw three contestants this week and will see more in the coming weeks, and Hoda and Kathie Lee had to choose which contestants they'd take in (like "The Voice").
Milstead sang 30 seconds of "One More Try" by George Michael – just as he did in his audition video – and he sounded terrific.
Both Hoda and Kathie Lee said he was handsome and sounded great, but neither picked him.
Still, he was just seen on national TV... you never know who's watching.
Speaking of watching, some eyes downtown spied a star in Tupelo today.
The White Stripes' Jack White had lunch at Cafe 212 and bought an amp at the Vintage Guitar Shop.
Our photographer C. Todd Sherman saw him and asked what brought him to town, and he said he was "driving through Mississippi."
