Highway Patrol arrest 95 drunk drivers over Fourth of July holiday

During the Independence Holiday Enforcement period, the Mississippi Highway Patrol issued 3,227 traffic citations, arrested 95 drunk drivers and made 4 felony arrests, according to Trooper Ray Hall. State Troopers also investigated 47 traffic collisions across the state.

There was one fatal accident which occurred in Madison County. At approximately 3:45, p.m., July 4th, Troopers responded to the fatal accident on Highway 43 near Camden. It appears Edward Bradford III, 56, of Canton, was traveling south on MS 43, when h apparently lost control of the 2003 Ford Windstar Van he was driving. The vehicle left the roadway, overturned, and collided into a pole. Bradford received fatal injuries from the crash.

Specifically, in Troop F (New Albany) - Troopers issued 279 traffic citations and made 11 DUI arrest.

There was one felony drug arrest made in Lee County during the Holiday period.

Shawn M Brown, 38, of Booneville, was arrested at approximately 7:30 p.m., July 3rd, on US 45 near Barnes Crossing Mall for possession of Marijuana with intent to distribute. Brown was stopped for a traffic violation and after a brief investigation over ½ lb of marijuana was discovered along with drug paraphernalia in his vehicle. He is in the Lee County Jail awaiting bond.

The Holiday period began Wednesday, July 3rd and ended at mid-night on July 4th.
