MSU basketball coach Rick Ray spoke at the Tupelo Kiwanis Club meeting this afternoon, and the mixed crowd (MSU and Ole Miss fans both) received him warmly. Ray made them laugh, particularly when talking about freshman guard Craig Sword, whose nickname is "Chicken." Ray joked that he didn't want his starting point guard named "Chicken," but that he'd rather have him on the wing. (GET IT?)

Ray later clarified that Sword has not been named the starting point guard. The freshman will be needed there, however, due to the loss of presumptive starter Jacoby Davis to a knee injury. Ray talked about both of those guys and a good bit more when WTVA's Jim Holder and I spoke with him.
