Advice: “I love people. Mingling with customers is my favorite part of owning my own business. I like working my own hours and getting to pick my merchandise myself. I’m my own boss.”

Cook’s Fashions in Fulton has been open since 1997, making it a fixture in the area’s retail landscape.

It sells a wide variety of clothing for women, men and children – everything from dresses to coats to hats to accessories.

Located at 1509 S. Adams St., inside the Fulton Plaza, Cook’s Fashions is owned by Emma Cook and her husband, Robert.

Cook said she and her husband “ventured” from Tupelo to Fulton when they decided to open their own business.

“Fulton was kind of small and didn’t have a lot of businesses like I wanted to open. It was a need,” she said.

At that time, it was one of only a handful of retail clothing stores in the area, a fact that Cook attributes to the business’ survivability.

“It was a blessing,” Cook said. “People would come in and like what they saw. We still have a few of those customers who come in, though a lot of them have passed away. We’ve been blessed with their family members, though.”
