Alcorn County dove field ready for opening day

There are still a limited number of permits available for the Alcorn County dove field. The field, which has been in the MDWFP’s Private Lands Dove Field Program for several years, is located near Corinth and has a good history of holding doves.

The 17-acre field was planted with browntop millet and strips of sunflowers. The millet will be managed to coincide with attracting doves for opening weekend, and the sunflowers will continue to attract doves for the remainder of the first two dove seasons.

Permit cost is $100 and allows hunting for the first two dove seasons. To maintain hunt quality, hunting is limited to afternoons only on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Each permitted adult hunter can bring up to two youth with them at no additional cost with each hunter being allowed to harvest a limit of doves each day.

“The Alcorn County dove field is a relatively small dove field, but provides a great place for hunters who want to stay away from large crowds,” Scott Baker, dove program coordinator, said. “It has provided good hunting in the past and should be successful again this year.”
