STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) — Shaun Smith and Kristers Zeidaks have been dismissed from the Mississippi State basketball team for "repeated violations of team rules."

First-year coach Rick Ray said in a statement it was an "unfortunate situation for Shaun, Kris and our team. However, players must be held accountable for their actions."

Smith is a 6-foot-6 junior who was expected to play a larger role with the team after battling various injuries for two seasons. He played in 34 career games, averaging 1.0 points and 0.6 rebounds.

Zeidaks is a 6-foot-8 junior who was expected to add depth in the Bulldogs' frontcourt. He spent last season with the team but never played for Mississippi State due to NCAA eligibility issues.
