CORINTH – The Corinth Police Department investigation of a one-vehicle crash Wednesday on U.S. Highway 72 east is nearing completion, said Chief David Lancaster.

Phoenix Dawn Peacher, 18, was the driver and Samantha Jane Evetts, 20, the passenger in a 2002 Mustang that went off the north side of the highway east of the new Kimberly-Clark access road.

Peacher apparently lost control of the car and over-corrected and the car went over a steep embankment, striking a utility pole. Evetts was ejected from the vehicle, and neither woman was wearing a seat belt.

Both women were pronounced dead at the scene by Alcorn County Coroner Jay Jones.

Accident reconstructionist Capt. Chuck Hinds examined the vehicle Thursday, the chief said, and nothing was found to indicate it was anything other than a tragic accident.
