Wayne Spencer, 29, of Booneville, was charged with a felony for allegedly choking the victim.
He was also charged with two counts of simple assault on an officer, resisting arrest and public profanity.
Officers alleged Spencer kicked the rear door glass out of the patrol vehicle once he was placed in the car resulting in an additional charge of malicious mischief.
He won't be able to bond out because of a current Mississippi Department of Corrections hold.
