The fire department was called at 8:15 p.m., said Chief Rob Price. They arrived at the plant to find a fire in the salt bath that went up into the air filter and was visible through the roof, he said.
There were no fire injuries, but the second shift was evacuated from the plant, said Rachel Potts of Caterpillar corporate affairs. The fire was limited to a piece of equipment and there was no damage to the building.
The only water needed to extinguish the fire was pumped from the trucks, Price said, and connection to a water hydrant was not required. Four pumper trucks and a ladder truck responded to the incident.
Firefighters were able to leave the scene at 9:09 p.m., the chief said.
