Michael Blane Dowda, 48, is considered armed and dangerous, Jasmine Cole with the Mississippi Department of Corrections said in a news release.
Dowda was discovered missing at 3 p.m. today and was last seen on the Parchman grounds wearing state-issued MDOC green and white striped pants with a white MDOC shirt.
Authorities believe Dowda is driving a white 2005 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck he’s believed to have stolen from prison grounds.
The truck has Yalobusha County plates and a disability tag, Cole said.
Dowda is white, with brown eyes and hair. He is 5 foot, 11 inches tall and weighs 195 pounds.
He has one tattoo on the top left side of his chest.
Court records show in November 1996, during an argument, Dowda shot Clarissa Lynn Jarret once in the head with a .380 semi-automatic handgun he thought was unloaded. Though he had removed the clip earlier, one bullet remained in the chamber. Jarret died instantly.
Dowda removed her body from the home they shared and buried her in a shallow grave near a hotel in Harrison County. He was found in Las Vegas three months later.
He was convicted of depraved heart murder, for causing death by an act eminently dangerous to others, in 1998.
Anyone with information about Dowda is asked to call local law enforcement or the MDOC at 601-573-5613 or 662-745-6611.
