Ivy, a senior from Woodland, became the c o l l e g e ’s first black student to be chosen for that distinction.
“It is truly an honor, and I mean that,” she said. “When I look back at everything that’s gone on in our history, I realize how much things have changed and how much they are still changing.”
Ivy, the daughter of Herbert and Josie Ivy, will be crowned homecoming queen on Nov. 3 at 12:30 p.m. as part of BMC’s annual Founder’s Day.
“We are very proud of Courtney and congratulate her on being named the college’s first African American homecoming queen,” said Dr. Barbara Childers McMillin, BMC president. “Her selection is both an honor for her and a significant milestone for BMC."
