Student affairs vice president Bill Kibler has proposed that the campus become smoke-free by August of 2014.
Officials tell the Starkville Daily News that the proposal must still go through staff reviews before being presented to MSU's executive council for final discussion and recommendation to MSU President Mark Keenum.
Kibler's proposal includes a publicity campaign to help students and faculty and staff make the transition through promotion of tobacco use cessation programs. He says an interim policy revision that would designate specific areas for tobacco use near buildings to reduce secondhand smoke.
