OXFORD — Lafayette County has agreed to buy 160 acres for $2.4 million.

County officials tell the Oxford Eagle (http://bit.ly/bxMH7X ) that the land will be set aside to provide a new home for county buildings now located along Mississippi Highway 7 South. The buildings may have to be moved once the Mississippi Department of Transportation begins widening the road.

The land generally runs along Mississippi Highway 6 and Highway 334.

Properties along Highway 7 South that could be lost as a result of the widening include the Lafayette County Extension Office, Health Department and the Mississippi Driver's License Testing Station.

MDOT has given a timeline of June of 2013 to purchase land for the Highway 7 project, although the actual widening may not begin until 2016.
