Joshua Parker, 27, of Okolona was reported dead at the scene when emergency workers arrived following a pedestrian/vehicle accident. Coroner Andy Harmon said the accident is still under investigation, but it appeared Parker was walking in the roadway of Hwy. 47 just north of the Clay County line when he was struck by a motorist.
“There was an ATV laid on it’s side by the road, but it didn’t look like it had any damage to it,” Harmon said. “He was in the roadway when he was struck by a car. The driver called 911.”
The call to 911 was received at 12:26 a.m. Sunday morning.
Harmon said the driver’s name is not being released while the investigation is underway.
“By the time emergency services and law enforcement arrived, he was pronounced dead at the scene,” Harmon said.
He added the body has been sent to Jackson for autopsy to determine exact cause of death.
