Lady Cats, Lady Rams close seasons

The beginning of each softball season holds the promise of extended play, but for the Lady Rams and Lady Wildcats, it’s just not to be this year.
Neither team will advance to post-season play as Smithville and Hamilton have already claimed the top two spots.
“We are not going to make playoffs this year,” said Houlka coach Vicki Homan. “Maybe next year.”
Vardaman’s Billy Dill has been working out the kinks with his team this year in preparation for next fall as well.
“We’re a young team,” Dill said. “We only have one senior. We’re just too inconsistent.”
The Lady Rams snagged a 3-2 win over Bruce in the Calhoun County tournament Saturday, but fell to Calhoun City, 0-2.
The Lady Wildcats suffered a 10-0 shutout at the hands of Smithville last week.
Vardaman and Houlka are scheduled to finish up their seasons against each other Oct. 7.
