Power up

web powerPowerlifting season has begun with the Hilltoppers placing fourth as a team at the Amory Invitational.
The team competed against Amory, West Point, Starkville, Pontotoc, East Union, Hatley, Aberdeen and Falkner at the Jan. 23 meet and four team members brought home individual medals.
n Jared Bean, first in 114-pound class
n Jalon Gates, second in 123-pound class
n Hunter B. Moore, third in 148-pound class
n Johnny Allen, second in Super Heavyweight class (308+)
This season, the team is under the direction of coach Coty Cox who said the winter sport gives student athletes another option for competition.
“For the kids who don’t play football, baseball or one of the other main sports, it’s another outlet to participate in an extra-curricular activity,” Cox said. “For the ones who play other sports, it promotes their performance in that sport as well.”
Next up for the team is the Regional meet in Caledonia Feb. 14. The Toppers will compete against Caledonia, Kosciusko and Leake Central.
“I honestly feel we have a really good chance to do well at the regional,” Cox said.
