Plantersville Middle Principal Bill Horton died at home on Friday. The official cause of death is unknown. It is believed to be a heart attack.
“We are all deeply saddened at Bill’s passing,” Lee County Superintendent Jimmy Weeks said. “He was a very good school man and a dear friend. We’re all going to miss him.”
Horton had been at Plantersville for about six years. He is a former coach at Verona, where he coached football and basketball, among other things.
Weeks said he will find a retired Lee County administrator to fill-in for the short term. He does not yet know what the district will do for the long term.
School board president Sherry Mask said the district is grieving the loss and will have counselors at the school next week for students and staff.
“He’s been with the district a long time and was very well thought of,” she said.
