Shannon Elementary trying to win grant

Voting ends today at midnight in an online contest that could net Shannon Elementary a new sound system for its gym.

The school is among more than 100 in the nation vying for a Power a Bright Future grant from The Clorox Company. The winner will get up to $50,000, which the school has said it will use for its sound system.

Adults and kids 13 and older can vote online at www.PowerABrightFuture.com. Individuals can also vote for Shannon Elementary by text message by texting 1052pbf to 95248.

The program that receives the highest number of votes will be awarded the $50,000 grand-prize grant, and the next top vote-getters in the Play, Create and Explore categories respectively will each be awarded a $25,000 grant.  A panel of Clorox judges will also select three lucky schools, one in each category, to win a $25,000 judge’s choice grant

Shannon Elementary also got a boost on Wednesday morning when The Board of Realtors donated $500 to its cause.
