Bobby Harrison reports in today’s Daily Journal that “Most area legislators want charters limited”
The story is a great comprehensive survey of the local delegation’s thoughts about the charter school issue that is expected to dominate the legislative debate in the current session.
Bobby interviewed 20 Northeast Mississippi legislators during the first week of the current session and found most favor charter schools only in low-performing districts. As noted, the region also has some of the strongest charter school supporters, particularly Sen. Nancy Collins, the vice chair of the Senate Education Committee.
Another interesting note was that House Education Committee Chair John Moore, R-Brandon, does not expect his committee to take up the issue this week.
