Education reporter Sarah Carr will be at Square Books in Oxford on Tuesday, April 2 at 5 p.m. to speak about her new book “Hope Against Hope.” The book tells the story of the New Orleans public school system after Hurricane Katrina through the eyes of a veteran principal, a first-year teacher and a 14-year-old student. It also analyzes the proliferation of charter schools in the city.
Carr will also speak about the growth of the charter school movement and lessons learned in Mississippi from New Orleans’ experience with charters.
Carr is a contributing editor with The Hechinger Report. She has worked as a staff writer for The Chronicle of Higher Education, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and the New Orleans Times-Picayune
