MSU Visits South Carolina, Gets Two Off-Weeks in 2013

The SEC released the 2013 schedule this afternoon, and the most notable part for Mississippi State is it’s taking a road trip to South Carolina on Nov. 2. The Bulldogs played the Gamecocks at home last year, losing 14-12, and their last trip to Columbia was 2007 (a 21-18 loss).

Five of MSU’s first seven games will be at home, with the SEC opener again being Auburn (Sept. 14, on the road). It’s a 14-week schedule next season, meaning everybody gets two off-weeks. MSU’s fall on Sept. 28 and Oct. 19. The first one comes the week before hosting LSU, the second the week before hosting Kentucky.

Between the Auburn and South Carolina games, MSU won’t be on the road. It has those two open dates breaking up a stretch of four consecutive home games.

The SEC said that the 2013 schedule is not based on past schedules, nor is it a template for future schedules. Commissioner Mike Slive said they need more time to figure out a permanent model for 2014 and beyond.
