Game Day Eve: Bulldogs Try to Slow Down Wilson

This week’s game: Arkansas (4-6, 2-4 SEC) at MSU (7-3, 3-3), Saturday, 11:21 a.m., SEC Network (Dave NealAndre Ware and Cara Capuano)

MSU has spoken very highly of Arkansas quarterback Tyler Wilson this week, and for good reason. As you can read in today’s Journal, Wilson is still having a solid year despite the team’s overall struggles.

His numbers are a little off from last year, but Wilson has still shown why he’s one of the top QBs in the country. In last week’s loss to South Carolina, he was 26 of 42 (61.9%) for 277 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. He was sacked three times.

“They like to let Tyler Wilson control the game, let him do all the reads and get the ball to his open guys,” MSU linebacker Cam Lawrence said. “They don’t got to have much space; he can thread the needle pretty well.”

Slowing down Wilson will be a huge key for MSU tomorrow. Getting pressure on him and getting him to the ground is part of that plan.

“It’s a big emphasis,” defensive tackle Josh Boyd said. “That’s one of the most keys of the game, is if we can get to him, get him a little nervous and sack him.”
