MSU Picks Up Pair of WR Commitments

Mississippi State picked up a couple of football commitments this morning, both of them wide receivers, and both of them coming from the junior college ranks.

This gives MSU a total of 21 verbal commitments for the 2013 class. My man Paul Jones of Bulldawgs247 has stories on both of them.

• Jeremey Chappelle is 6-foot-3, 210 pounds and played at Tyler (Texas) Community College. He was visiting MSU this weekend.

• Corey Smith is a 5-11, 185-pounder from down the road at East Mississippi CC. He also was a visitor to State this weekend.

Chappelle and Smith give the Bulldogs five wide receivers in this commitment class. Some immediate help will be needed next season, as four seniors will be leaving the receiving corps. Some of the younger receivers, namely Jameon Lewis and Joe Morrow, have yet to emerge as starting material. Being juco guys, Chappelle and Smith will be expected to come in and play right away.

I am the online content coordinator for Previously at the Journal, I covered Mississippi State athletics (2008-13), high schools (2004-08), and was on the copy desk (2002-04). I'm working on a recipe for bacon-flavored coffee, which would solve all the world's problems.
