On the Links: Stricklin Q&A; Denson Out; Banks Honored Again

Good morning, people. As you sip your coffee – or whatever gets you going – I have some linkage and such for you. Lots of good reading in today’s Journal.

• Let’s start with my Q&A with Scott Stricklin. We talked mostly about football, and as you will read, he feels positive about the direction of the program under fourth-year coach Dan Mullen.

• We learned yesterday that Quantel Denson, an MSU basketball signee, has been released from his scholarship. Now Rick Ray has another roster spot to fill for next season.

• Cornerback Johnthan Banks was one of several SEC players named to the AP All-America team on Tuesday.

• It’s official: Todd Monken is the new Southern Miss football coach. MSU opens the 2014 season at home versus the Golden Eagles.

Don’t forget, MSU’s stretch of open bowl practices begins today at 3:45 p.m. You can go out and watch the Bulldogs as they prepare to play Northwestern in the Gator Bowl on Jan. 1 (11 a.m., ESPN2). Practices are also open Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and there will be an open scrimmage at Davis Wade Stadium on Sunday. I’ll be down there most every day to bring you updates.

I am the online content coordinator for DJournal.com. Previously at the Journal, I covered Mississippi State athletics (2008-13), high schools (2004-08), and was on the copy desk (2002-04). I'm working on a recipe for bacon-flavored coffee, which would solve all the world's problems.
