We hacks were allowed to view an MSU football practice for the first time since early August, and I have a view observations for you, as well as some video. First, the observations.
• Freshman receiver Brandon Holloway, who had butter fingers when we last saw him in August, looked much sharper today and held onto the ball. Look for him to compete for playing time in the slot next season.
• He’ll be competing with Jameon Lewis, a sophomore who’s yet to live up to expectations. Lewis looked good today; of course, he was going against backups. But Lewis made one nice leaping grab while getting upended near the sideline. He held onto the ball.
• Redshirt freshman receiver Joe Morrow, who has been battling a knee injury this season, was noticeably gimpy but was participating in team work.
• Backup offensive guard Ben Beckwith went down and was favoring his right ankle. He sat out the rest of practice.
OK, let’s do some videos here. First, Christian Holmes talks about his switch from linebacker to tight end. Then we hear from freshman linebacker Richie Brown and freshman cornerback Cedric Jiles. Enjoy.
