Practice Observations; Mullen, Clark, Love Videos

MSU practiced again today, this time outdoors, and again I watched. So I have a handful of observations for you as well as some videos. First, the observations.

• Quarterback Tyler Russell didn’t participate in any of the drills, as he’s nursing a sprained ankle. Right now he’s resting every other day; he participated and threw yesterday, and he’ll do so again tomorrow. Also sidelined today were offensive lineman Ben Beckwith and cornerback Cedric Jiles.

• During kickoff return drills, freshman Brandon Holloway and redshirt freshman Josh Robinson were the deep return men.

• There were a lot of dropped passes today by several different receivers, mostly young guys (of course, young guys are getting the majority of reps right now). Maybe it was a product of being in the cold weather a day after practicing indoors. There were some sweet catches, though, including a sliding grab by sophomore tight end Brandon Hill between two defenders.

• There were also some nice defensive plays, including interceptions by redshirt freshman cornerback Taveze Calhoun and freshman safety Deontay Evans, the latter on a tip drill.

OK, on to the videos. Here are coach Dan Mullen, senior receiver Arceto Clark and sophomore cornerback Jamerson Love.

I am the online content coordinator for I also co-host The Memo and Prep Rally podcasts and host the Newsbreak program. Previously at the Journal, I covered Mississippi State athletics (2008-13), high schools (2004-08), and was on the copy desk (2002-04).
