Previewing today’s season-opening game between No. 5 MSU and Portland.

–––––

• First pitch: 4 p.m.

• Records (2012): Portland 27-25 (12-12 WCC), MSU 40-24 (16-14 SEC)

• Pitching matchup: Portland RHP Matt McCallister (3-3, 3.86 ERA in 2012) vs. MSU LHP Jacob Lindgren (2-2, 3.18)

• MSU lineup: SS Adam Frazier, CF C.T. Bradford, 1B Wes Rea, DH Trey Porter, RF Hunter Renfroe, C Mitch Slauter, 2B Brett Pirtle, 3B Daryl Norris, LF Demarcus Henderson

• What to watch for: Lindgren did mostly relief work last season but had two strong starts in the postseason. Against LSU (SEC Tournament) and Samford (NCAA regional), he allowed a combined four earned runs, 13 hits, struck out six and walked three in 8 2/3 innings.

• Pregame playlist: Five songs from my iPod to set the tone…

–”Boys of Summer,” The Ataris

–”Little Red Rooster,” The Stone Foxes

–”Gold on the Ceiling,” The Black Keys

–”Kicking,” Torche

–”Drop the Needle,” Black Pistol Fire
