Sword Earns Second SEC Freshman of the Week Honor

Mississippi State guard Craig Sword has been named the SEC freshman of the week, the league office announced this morning. It’s the second time this season he’s won the honor.

The 6-foot-3 Sword averaged 19.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.5 steals in games against South Carolina and Auburn last week. He scored 20 versus the Gamecocks and sparked a second-half rally that saw MSU cut a 22-point deficit to five points. Against Auburn, Sword scored 19 and made two big free throws with 36 seconds left to break a 71-71 tie; MSU won 74-71. He had six assists that game.

For the season, Sword is averaging a team-best 10.3 points per game to go with 2.9 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.6 steals. He’s shooting 40.4 percent from the field.
