LSU-MSU Pregame: Let SEC Play Begin

LSU-MSUPreviewing today’s SEC series opener between No. 13 MSU and No. 7 LSU.

• First pitch: 6:30 p.m.

• Records: LSU 16-1, MSU 18-2.

• Pitching matchup: LSU RHP Aaron Nola (2-0, 2.77) vs. MSU LHP Jacob Lindgren (2-0, 0.96)

• LSU lineup: RF Chris Sciambra, CF Mark Laird, SS Alex Bregman, LF Raph Rhymes, 1B Mason Katz, 3B Christian Ibarra, 2B Jacoby Jones, C Ty Ross, DH Chris Chinea

• MSU lineup: SS Adam Frazier, CF C.T. Bradford, RF Hunter Renfroe, 1B Alex Detz, C Mitch Slauter, LF Demarcus Henderson, DH Wes Rea, 3B Sam Frost, 2B Brett Pirtle

• What to watch for: Lots to watch for today, including how Rea holds up with his injured quad, and how Lindgren handles his first regular-season SEC start – but his second versus LSU, which he faced in last year’s SEC Tournament. Lindgren gave up three runs on three hits in 4 2/3 innings, and State won 4-3. … Lindgren won’t be getting any mound visits tonight from pitching coach Butch Thompson, who is not with the team because of the death of his father-in-law. … If you’ve not yet read my advance, click here. … Rhymes, LSU’s left fielder, led the SEC in hitting last season with a .431 average. He’s hitting .369 this season, ranking 19th.
