Video: Recalling the Game of Change

Today marks the 50th anniversary of Mississippi State’s NCAA tournament game versus Loyola-Chicago. It was the first time a Mississippi team had played an integrated squad, and that game has been written about and memorialized in various ways the past few months as many of us have recalled the historical significance of that day in East Lansing, Michigan.

There have been a couple of documentaries done on the event. And over at, there is an eight-minute tribute that centers around the moment Loyola’s Jerry Harkness and MSU’s Joe Dan Gold shook hands at midcourt, a moment that changed everything. It was a game that changed everything.

I am the online content coordinator for Previously at the Journal, I covered Mississippi State athletics (2008-13), high schools (2004-08), and was on the copy desk (2002-04). I'm working on a recipe for bacon-flavored coffee, which would solve all the world's problems.
