LSU-MSU Pregame: Bulldogs Look to Even Series

Previewing today’s Game 2 between No. 13 MSU and No. 7 LSU.

• First pitch: 6 p.m. (CSS,

• Records: LSU 17-1 (1-0 SEC), MSU 18-3 (0-1)

Pitching matchup: LSU RHP Ryan Eades (3-0, 1.80) vs. MSU RHP Evan Mitchell (0-0, 2.30)

• LSU lineup: 2B Jacoby Jones, RF Mark Laird, SS Alex Bregman, LF Raph Rhymes, 1B Mason Katz, 3B Christian Ibarra, DH Tyler Moore, C Ty Ross, CF Andrew Stevenson

• MSU lineup: SS Adam Frazier, CF C.T. Bradford, RF Hunter Renfroe, 3B Alex Detz, DH Trey Porter, LF Jacob Robson, 1B Wes Rea, C Nick Ammirati, 2B Matthew Britton

What to watch for: You’ll notice some significant shuffling of the lineup today by John Cohen, which isn’t unusual for him. Rea, who’s battled an injured quad and DH’d in last night’s 6-4 loss, is making his first start in the field since March 1. Detz, who has been a more than capable fill-in at first base, is making his first start at third, which long-term is where you’ll likely see him most. In his four starts this season, Mitchell has gone longer than three innings twice, and last week versus Central Arkansas he lasted only 2 2/3 innings, allowing one run on one hit with three walks and two hit-by-pitches.

• Pregame playlist: A few songs from my iPod to set the tone…

–”Drag the Lake Charlie,” Drive-By Truckers

–”Hey Man, Nice Shot,” Filter

–”Ali In the Jungle,” The Hours

–”Hysteria,” Muse

–”Goddess of War,” Phantom Runners
