Auburn-MSU Pregame: Bulldogs Can Earn Two Wins Tonight

Previewing today’s game between No. 16 Mississippi State and Auburn.

• First pitch: 6:30 p.m.

• TV: CSS,

Records: Auburn 23-14 (5-10 SEC), MSU 30-9 (8-7)

• Pitching matchup: Auburn LHP Michael O’Neal (7-2, 2.40) vs. MSU RHP Kendall Graveman (5-2, 2.15)

• Auburn lineup: CF Ryan Tella, 2B Jordan Ebert, LF Cullen Wacker, 1B Garrett Cooper, DH Patrick Savage, C Blake Austin, 3B Damek Tomscha, RF Hunter Kelley, SS Mitchell Self

MSU lineup: SS Adam Frazier, 3B Alex Detz, RF Hunter Renfroe, 2B Brett Pirtle, 1B Wes Rea, CF C.T. Bradford, DH Daryl Norris, C Nick Ammirati, LF Demarcus Henderson

• What to watch for: This is technically the second game of the series, although last night’s opener was suspended in the seventh inning due to severe weather. So what’ll happen is after this game ends, the teams will resume last night’s game, which the Bulldogs are leading, 6-3. Which means MSU can win the series tonight. Weather will be fine, if perhaps a bit chilly. Both teams entered the weekend playing some good baseball, with MSU having won seven of its last eight games, and Auburn seven of its last nine. Both squads have won their last two SEC series. Graveman, a senior, is going for his fourth consecutive complete game.

• Pregame playlist: A few songs from my iPod to set the tone…

–”Wandering Eyes,” Kopecky Family Band

–”Where is My Mind?” Pixies

–”Lazy Eye,” Silversun Pickups

–”Rock This Town,” Stray Cats

–”Sharp Dressed Man,” ZZ Top
