Alabama-MSU Pregame: Bulldogs Go for First Alabama Sweep in Nine Years

Previewing today’s series finale between No. 22 Mississippi State and Alabama.

• First pitch: 1:30 p.m.

• TV: CBS Sports Network (John Sadak play-by-play, Marlon Anderson analyst)

• Records: Alabama 27-20 (11-11 SEC), MSU 35-13 (12-11).

• Pitching matchup: Alabama LHP Justin Kamplain (1-0, 4.82) vs. MSU LHP Jacob Lindgren (4-2, 3.47)

• Alabama lineup: 3B Kenny Roberts, CF Georgie Salem, 2B Kyle Overstreet, RF Ben Moore, 1B Austen Smith, C Brett Booth, SS Mikey Smith, LF Andrew MIller, DH Steven Cole

• MSU lineup: SS Adam Frazier, 3B Alex Detz, RF Hunter Renfroe, 2B Brett Pirtle, 1B Wes Rea, CF C.T. Bradford, LF Demarcus Henderson, DH Derrick Armstrong, C Nick Ammirati

• What to watch for: State is going for its second SEC series sweep of the season, and it would be the first sweep of Alabama since 2004, and first at Dudy Noble Field since 1993. Sweeping would give an extra boost to MSU’s postseason résumé, especially in regards to hosting an NCAA regional. Finishing above .500 in SEC play should assure that happening.

• Pregame playlist: A few songs from my iPod to set the tone…

–”Always Alright,” Alabama Shakes

–”Bad Thing,” King Tuff

–”Creep,” Radiohead

–”Gimme a Beer,” Diamond Rugs

–”Heavy,” Collective Soul

I am the online content coordinator for Previously at the Journal, I covered Mississippi State athletics (2008-13), high schools (2004-08), and was on the copy desk (2002-04). I'm working on a recipe for bacon-flavored coffee, which would solve all the world's problems.
