Renfroe Among Finalists for Ferriss Trophy

No surprise here: MSU slugger Hunter Renfroe is a finalist for the Ferriss Trophy, which is awarded annually to the state’s top college baseball player. The other four finalists are Ole Miss catcher Stuart Turner, Ole Miss pitcher Bobby Wahl, Delta State pitcher John Branstetter, and Southern Miss pitcher Andrew Pierce.

Renfroe, a junior right fielder, is having a breakout season for the 24th-ranked Bulldogs. He leads the SEC in home runs with 15, and he’s batting .390 with 51 RBIs and a league-best .750 slugging percentage. He’s on the watch list for the Golden Spikes Award, which goes to the nation’s top player.

The Ferriss winner will be announced May 20 at a luncheon at the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum in Jackson.
