Missouri-MSU Pregame: Bulldogs Open SEC Tournament Title Defense

Previewing tonight’s SEC Tournament first-round game between No. 5 seed MSU and No. 12 seed Missouri.

• First pitch: 7:45 p.m.

TV: CSS, ESPN3.com

• Records: Missouri 18-31 (10-20 SEC), MSU 40-16 (16-14)

Pitching matchup: Missouri LHP Rob Zastryzny (2-9, 3.64) vs. MSU RHP Trevor Fitts (0-0, 1.65)

• Missouri lineup: SS Dillon Everett, 2B Josh Lester, RF Dane Opel, 1B Keaton Steele, C Dylan Kelly, CF Logan Pearson, 3B Shane Segovia, DH Jake Ivory, LF Brannon Champagne

• MSU lineup: SS Adam Frazier, 3B Alex Detz, RF Hunter Renfroe, 2B Brett Pirtle, 1B Wes Rea, CF C.T. Bradford, LF Demarcus Henderson, C Nick Ammirati, DH Derrick Armstrong

• What to watch for: Mizzou’s offense is the worst in the SEC, and so long as Fitts doesn’t let the pressure of the situation get to him and can get the game to the bullpen in good shape, MSU should be fine. The main concern for State is the offense getting shut down by Zastryzny, who over his last three appearances has allowed five earned runs in 22 innings (2.05 ERA). State’s offense has been known to disappear, but it’s been awfully good of late, averaging 12 hits and 5.5 runs over the last six games.

Pregame playlist: A few songs from my iPod to set the tone…

–”If I Were Going,” The Afghan Whigs

–”Seven Nation Army,” The White Stripes

–”Love Like This,” Kodaline

–”Common Ground,” The Little Heroes

–”Third Stone From the Sun/If You Love Me Like You Say,” Gary Clark Jr.
