We caught up with MSU coach John Cohen and some of his players this morning, a day before they leave for Charlottesville, Va., to take on Virginia in the super regional round. The best-of-three series begins Saturday at noon Central time.
Cohen said that senior right-hander Kendall Graveman (6-5, 2.94 ERA) will likely start on the mound Saturday, although he’s not 100 percent committed to that yet.
“Just looking at the matchup and on film, I would anticipate it would be Kendall,” Cohen said. “But we’re not going to pull the trigger on that quite yet because we don’t have to. But that is probably the direction we go.”
Here’s video of Cohen talking about Graveman and Virginia.
I’ll have Graveman’s thoughts later. I also spoke with slugger Hunter Renfroe, who will likely to be taken in the first round of the Major League Draft, which begins tomorrow night. Renfroe expects a big weight to be taken off his shoulders once his name is called.
“I think it’ll be a huge relief,” he said. “Once I have that off my chest and not have to worry about it, it’s going to be like I weigh 10 pounds.”
Here’s more of Renfroe talking about the draft, as well as the upcoming super regional.
