CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. | Got some links and some housekeeping notes for you on this Sunday.
No. 14 MSU is just one win from Omaha thanks to its 11-6 win over Virginia last night. Let’s link up the coverage.
Tonight’s game starts at 6 p.m. Central, and since LSU eliminated Oklahoma last night, that opened up a spot on ESPN2. So MSU-Virginia will be on both the Deuce and on ESPNU. And of course, you can also watch on ESPN3.com.
I just learned that sophomore right-hander Trevor Fitts (0-0, 2.28 ERA) will start on the mound tonight for MSU. This will be his fourth career start, all of them coming since May 14. In his previous three starts, Fitts has allowed five runs – two earned – in nine innings. His last start was against Central Arkansas on Sunday, in which he gave up two unearned runs in a 5-2 loss. State made four errors that game.
Fitts also drew a start in the SEC Tournament opener versus Missouri, giving up one earned run in 3 1/3 innings of what turned out to be a 17-inning, 2-1 MSU win. He tossed three innings against Oral Roberts in his first start, allowing two runs (one earned).
The MLB Draft concluded Saturday, with three more Bulldogs taken: pitcher Evan Mitchell (13th round, Reds), infielder/pitcher Daryl Norris (22nd, Tigers) and pitcher Luis Pollorena (23rd, Rangers). So MSU had seven players total drafted this year.
MSU football signee Cord Sandberg, by the way, has signed with the Phillies.
