Bulldogs to Open College World Series Saturday vs. Oregon State

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. | Mississippi State will open College World Series play on Saturday at 2 p.m. against Oregon State. Game times were announced Monday night.

The Bulldogs (48-18) swept the best-of-three Charlottesville Super Regional from Virginia, finishing things off with a 6-5 win Monday. They’ll be playing in the first game of the 2013 CWS in Omaha, Neb. The opponent, Oregon State (50-11), advanced late Monday night by defeating Kansas State, 4-3, in Corvallis, Ore. MSU and OSU are both making their first appearance in Omaha since 2007. The Beavers won their second consecutive national championship that year.

If MSU wins Saturday, it plays again Monday at 7 p.m. A loss, and it plays at 2 that day. The MSU-Oregon State game is matched up with Indiana vs. Louisville, who meet in the second game Saturday at 7 p.m.

Sunday at 2 p.m., N.C. State will play the winner of Tuesday’s North Carolina-South Carolina game. Then LSU and UCLA square off at 7.

Here’s your bracket.

Regardless of what Louisville did at Vandy, I think OSU and State are the two teams to beat in this bracket. Indy has big bats but they also have no pitching that I can tell. Had Vandy just laid off the high fastballs (didn’t matter who was pitching) they would be there instead of the Cardinals. I think State and OSU are very similar in styles. If State can get that first game, they will put themselves in really good contention for the Championship series.
