STARKVILLE | Entering its second week of work, Mississippi State hit the field at Davis Wade Stadium this morning for the first scrimmage of the preseason. Head coach Dan Mullen saw some good things, but he saw a lot that disappointed him, too.
“A bunch of false starts and silly penalties,” Mullen said. “A bunch of dropped passes, missed assignments, and that type of stuff. You see that a lot early. I guess it’s coaches talk, we have a lot of time to get that stuff fixed and you kind of expect it from a young team.”
Mullen chalked up the dropped passes to “poor concentration.” He added, “You get in that situation, and I’m a young player, the ball’s thrown to me, I’m thinking about what I’m going to do after the catch in the stadium.”
Mullen was pleased with the pass rush, and he said the offensive line did well at coming off the ball.
“Those are positives that we got out of it,” he said.
Here’s more from Mullen in the video below, and I also have video of receivers coach Billy Gonzales.
