We’re counting down to MSU’s season opener against Oklahoma State on Aug. 31, giving you a significant number to ponder as August trudges on. Today’s number is…
The Thursday ESPN game is a spotlight game, and so MSU will be in the spotlight twice this fall. The Bulldogs play host to Kentucky on Thursday, Oct. 24, and the Egg Bowl will be played Thursday, Nov. 28.
MSU has played 45 times on Thursdays, with a record of 18-25-2. Both the Kentucky and Ole Miss games will be on ESPN, of course, and the Bulldogs are 13-26 when playing on that network.
Under coach Dan Mullen, State is 1-2 on Thursday, with a win over Memphis in 2011 and losses to Auburn (2010) and LSU (2011). Both of this year’s Thursday games are winnable, with the one against Ole Miss being of the utmost importance. It will be the first Thursday/Thanksgiving meeting in this rivalry since 2003, and the 21st overall.
