FINAL: No. 13 Oklahoma State 21, MSU 3 (w/Video)

Recapping MSU’s 21-3 loss to No. 13 Oklahoma State at Reliant Stadium on Saturday.

HOUSTON | A shootout did not materialize, but Oklahoma State at least found some kind of firepower in the second half. The Cowboys (1-0), who led 7-3 at halftime, got a spark from the running game and quarterback J.W. Walsh to claim victory in this season opener.

OSU gained 432 total yards, with 286 of that coming on the ground. Walsh rushed for 125 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries, while Jeremy Smith had 102 yards and two TDs on 15 carries. Walsh scored Oklahoma State’s first touchdown of the game, from 3 yards with 2:16 left in the half. He sparked that scoring drive with a 46-yard run.

Smith scored the next two, making it 21-3 early in the fourth on a 20-yard scamper.

MSU started well offensively, with 148 yards in the first quarter (to OSU’s 47). The Bulldogs (0-1) finished with 333 total yards – 222 passing, 111 rushing. Quarterback Tyler Russell was 10 of 16 for 133 yards and an interception, and then he left the game for good with 2:50 left in the third quarter after taking a knee to the head on a scramble.

MSU was just 2 of 16 on third downs, while OSU was 8 of 14. Backup QB Dak Prescott failed to convert a pair of third-and-shorts with his legs – once in the second quarter, and then again in the third quarter after OSU had scored to open the half and go up 14-3.

OSU now leads the all-time series 3-2.

Does anybody in our program HATE losing, it doesn’t seem like it. Oh well, we got embarrassed again in a big game, next.

Can you update us as soon as possible on our injuries with Love, Hughes and Malone. Hope they’re ok

I agree Brendan outside of the first quarter, I never thought for a second that we wanted to win. OK state begged us to trounce on them and we did not want to. Any other FBS team would have beat their eyes out . lack luster effort staying true to form . Gonna be a long season but I will wade through it and stand with my team rise or fall . Go Bulldogs!!!
