Mississippi State quarterback commitment Elijah Staley has likely thrown his last high school pass.

The 6-foot-6 southpaw from Marietta, Ga., has been dismissed from the football team at Wheeler high school after a disagreement with head coach Mike Collins last Friday night according to in a 38-9 loss to Milton.

The Wildcats are 2-3 on the year.

Staley originally committed to Vanderbilt in April but de-committed a few weeks later seeking a desire to play basketball at the college level as well. The Bulldogs were recruiting the standout forward in both sports and landed his commitment in mid-June.

Through five games, Staley completed 64 of 101 passing for 1,015 yards, 10 touchdowns and five interceptions.

He will play both sports for the Bulldogs.

Paul Jones of is reporting that there is a possibility that Staley could enroll at MSU as early as January.

Staley’s Twitter account (@ES14_) sent out a message Wednesday afternoon stating “Once again S/o to #hailstate ! I love y’all! Can’t wait to get down there hopefully in January and join my other family !”

I have covered Mississippi State in some capacity since 2004 and joined the Daily Journal staff in 2013. I enjoy short walks on the beach, performing concerts in my car and watching professional wrestling.
