Welcome to homecoming here on the campus of Mississippi State as the Bulldogs host Bowling Green. The weather should be excellent for tonight’s game that’s set to kickoff at 6:38 p.m. on SportSouth. Both teams have specialists already out on the field warming up for this one. MSU will go with its glossy maroon helmets with maroon facemasks, maroon jerseys and maroon pants. They’ve got the Florida-LSU game on the MooTube during pregame. I’ve got my partner Kedrick Storey from the Southern Sentinel lending me a hand for tonight’s game. If you’re not already doing so, give him a follow (@Kedthesportsguy).
Bowling Green will be clad in white helmets and white uniforms.
There will be a few lineup changes for the Bulldogs. Redshirt freshman Justin Senior will start at left tackle for Blaine Clausell, junior Kaleb Eulls will start at defensive end for Preston Smith and true freshman Chris Jones will take Eulls spot at defensive tackle. Junior Justin Cox will start at cornerback for Jamerson Love. Junior Dillon Day will start at center for Dylan Holley.
For the Falcons, junior Zach Colvin will start at defensive tackle for Ted Ouellet.
Mississippi State has picked up a commitment from 2017 linebacker Anthony Hines III of Dallas, Texas. His father texted me on Monday informing me he would be coming on an unofficial visit this weekend. The 6-foot-2, 201-pounder also had offers from Akron and Montana. I saw him at camp this summer, he’s a big kid for his age and a good looking prospect. He played on the varsity team as an eighth grader at Episcopal and is the starting running back this year. Still a long time before he signs so we’ll see if it sticks.
The last half inning of the Dodgers-Cardinals game was shown on the MooTube.
According to the video board, both Dak Prescott and Tyler Russell will both be the starting quarterback. Unless they are running the A-11 offense (which is only legal on kicking downs in college and pro football) then both can’t start at QB.
Today’s honorary captain is Sonny Fischer.
Bowling Green won the toss and deferred to the second half. MSU will receive the ball to start the game.
Russell starts the game at quarterback. I wonder if Senior is the first international player to start for the Bulldogs? He’s Canadian.
Bulldogs go 75 yards in nine plays on the opening drive with Russell hitting on all five pass attempts. LaDarius Perkins goes over the top for a 1-yard touchdown run. It was his first of the year. Devon Bell PAT, 7-0 MSU 9:58 1st.
Prescott will take the second series at QB for the Bulldogs.
Prescott is picked off by BooBoo Gates and returned down to the MSU 13-yard line. That’s just the Falcons second INT this season.
Tyler Tate with a 35-yard field goal, 7-3 MSU 5:36 1st.
Prescott redeemed himself on the next play with a 75-yard touchdown run. Bell PAT, 14-3 MSU 5:24 1st.
Will Redmond and linebacker Ferlando Bohanna getting their first action of the year. Redmond was suspended for the first 18 games of his career while Bohanna has been out with a concussion suffered in the preseason.
Brian Schmiedebusch‘s punt was downed at the 1-yard line.
