STARKVILLE – Mississippi State junior Malcolm Johnson made the cut for the John Mackey Award as one of 29 players named to its midseason watch list on Tuesday. The award has been given annually to the nation’s top tight end since 2000.
Johnson has hauled in 10 passes for 112 yards on the year.
The 6-foot-2, 235-pounder from Tuscaloosa, Ala., has appeared in 25 games during his Bulldog career making six starts. He has 29 catches for 465 yards and four touchdowns.
Johnson was one of three tight ends from the SEC named to the Mackey midseason watch list joining Hunter Henry of Arkansas and Arthur Lynch of Georgia.
The award will be handed out Dec. 12 during The Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show on ESPNU.
