Mississippi State takes its perfect start to the season to Estero, Fla., this weekend as it meets Grand Canyon Friday in the opening game of the Gulf Coast Showcase.

Tip from Germain Arena is set for 5 p.m. CST, with the broadcast coming in the Golden Triangle and surrounding areas on WKBB-FM 100.9 and in Tupelo on WXWX-FM 96.3.

Mississippi State and Grand Canyon are joined in the tournament field by James Madison, N.C. State, Middle Tennessee, Southeastern Louisiana, UCLA and Wright State.

The Bulldogs make the trek to the Sunshine State after defeating Savannah State 81-63 on Tuesday to improve to 5-0 for the first time since the 2008-09 campaign.

Junior Kendra Grant paced the Bulldogs with 19 points in the victory. The Richland, Miss., native, who has scored double figures in seven of her last eight games going back to last season, raised her team-high season average to 17.4 points per game.

Fellow junior Martha Alwal added 15 points to boost her season total to 15.2 points per game. Alwal also tops the team on the boards, pulling down 8.2 per contest.

Freshman Dominique Dillingham had her best outing as a Bulldog on Tuesday, tallying 18 points to move up to 11.0 ppg on the year.

State will look to remain perfect on the season against a Grand Canyon squad that also moved to 5-0 with a 67-65 overtime win at North Texas on Friday.

The Antelopes are paced by Kaitlyn Petersen’s 15.6 scoring average. She also tops GCU with 4.2 assists per game.

Johnna Brown tops the Lopes on the boards, hauling down 9.8 per game to go along with a 13.4 scoring average.

Following Friday’s contest, the Bulldogs will face either UCLA or James Madison at 1:30 p.m. CST or 7:30 p.m. CST.
